AUSTIN — The University of Texas will be the first school in the nation to provide fluoride-free water fountains.
Student government approved the bill 35 to 2 Wednesday night to protect women and African-Americans. Studies show these two groups are particularly vulnerable to fluoride toxicity, especially if they have kidney disease, thyroid disease or diabetes.

The EPA and CDC lowered the maximum level of fluoride in drinking water by 42 percent in 2011.
